FAQ's
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapists assist people with movement disorders acquired through birth, accident or injury or long standing dysfunction such as postural problems or overuse injuries. Physiotherapists analyse and identify your problems, then use a variety of evidence based techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. We also play an important role in rehabilitation, management and offer advice on helping you prevent problems returning or happening in the first place.
Do I need a Doctor’s referral?
No, a doctor’s referral is not necessary to see a physiotherapist, however, we endeavour to work in partnership with your doctor to help manage and plan your treatment whenever appropriate.
Can I access physiotherapy through Medicare?
Yes, in June 2004, the Federal Government introduced access to Medicare funded physiotherapy. The Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program provides medicare rebates for allied health services, for people who have a chronic medical condition with complex care needs. You may be eligible to claim a rebate through medicare for these services if you have a chronic condition that is being managed by your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. A chronic medical condition is one that has been or will be present for at least 6 months. The EPC provides a maximum of 5 total rebates per calendar year for all Allied Health services. This means that if you are accessing more than one Allied Health service, you are entitled to 5 rebates across all of the services combined, not 5 rebates per service. Your GP will be able to assess whether you have complex care needs. To access Medicare funded physiotherapy, you will need to speak to your GP about whether you are eligible for this initiative.
*NOTE: EPC appointments with Mark incur a gap payment of $30. Other Physiotherapists may also charge a gap fee when using your EPC appointments
